Oil capacity of the Camry LE with 2AZ-FE engine

Hi gang, I hope you all have been great!Got a stumper for y'all.The '06 Camry manual states the car's oil capacity is 4.0quarts (with filter) [Page 335].Yet during my second oil change yesterday with Mobil 1 FullySynthetic,the technician told me the capacity is 4.25 quarts.Three months ago, the previous tech also put in 4.25 quarts. I sawthathe had opened a fifth one-quart bottle but only used it partially andreturned the remainder to me.All I know is each time I have an oil change, the oil level on thedipstickgoes well beyond the full line.So I wonder who's right: the techs or the manual?I hope everyone's enjoying the summer!

Thanks for the helpful tip Ray O. I think what I'll do is buy the big 5-quart jug since it's cheaper by the unit, and pour it into the four empty 1-quart bottles that I still have saved from 6 months ago. I'll give the tech the 4 1-quart bottles, and keep the jug at home.

There isn't any concern about contamination or anything like that by re-filling and re-using the old bottles, is there?

And this way I can control exactly how much oil is added. The first tech put in 4.25 quarts, and the second tech put in 4.5 quarts.

That works! You sound pretty particular about the quality of the oil changes done on your car. I am also particular, which is one of the reasons I do my own oil changes. The other reason I do my own oil changes is that I'm cheap. Doing my own oil changes not only saves me a buck or two, I can do it in less time than it takes to drive to the dealership or a quick lube place (the dealership happens to be closer to my house and open until midnight), and I can do it whenever I happen to be free.

Perhaps just pour off one quart from the 5 gallon container into an old 1 quart oil bottle and then bring the 4 quarts to the oil change guy. Use that other quart for the lawnmower or for topping off later on. Tomes

RayO mentioned there are problems when using the big jug to pour oil into the crankcase.
