oil spill on hood insulation corolla

I have noticed an oil spill on theh insulation of the hood. I have a toyota corolla 98 model. I dont see any oil strains anywhere on or near the engine except on the black colored rubber like pipe which lies on the end of the hood. Can someone suggest me what can be the problem.

Which end of the hood? Near the front of the car or near the windshield? Is the stain on the right side of the car (as seen when sitting in the car) or the left side of the car? In other words, what part of the engine is the stain over? Is the stain in a line or in a circular pattern? With the engine running, can you see any leaks?

The stains are near the windshield end of the car. The stains are mainly in the center and spread on both sides.

Actually I noticed light fumes coming out of the hood after I drove for around 15 miles and parked to get some stuff. On opening the hood I noticed that there was quite some oil spill on the insulation cover near the windshield end of the car. The oil was dripping from the cover. Back home I checked the cover but there was no sign of any new spill. Also there were no fumes this time. I am confused what may have caused the leakage in the first place.

Check to make sure that the oil filler cap is in place. Also check the coolant level in the overflow bottle.
