Opinions on engine build up

I'm trying to break a record for most HP on the 5SFE engine while keeping it NA. It's 140bhp (94+ mr2) and around 105rwhp / 125 rwtq in stock form. The record thus far is 147/153 at the wheels. These are my plans and I would like to hear any opinion on producing any more power.

1-2mm OS valves, stock valves on the 5s are ridiculously small @32.5mm intake and only 28mm exhaust.

A set of cams, both intake and exhaust, I am not sure on which spec, probably something a bit more aggressive than web cams 264 grind.

ITBs on a custom manifold. Flow control for both high and low RPM via a custom plenum and throttle plates.

4-1 Header is what I have already purchased, I may build a custom 4-2-1 race header later, not sure how much it's worth doing right now.

High flow cat into a large high flow muffler. I am open to suggestions on this, I need to keep a deep tone and want to stay away from anything 'ricey' while not loosing much power. This must also be a dual tip muffler.

Port / Polish / Port match.

Balance the crank.

Knife Edge the crank. I am not sure if a knife edge can be done and still balance the crank after, or if there will be enough benefit from this to justify it being done at all, opinions?

ARP studs and rod bolts.

3SGTE Rods .

11:1 pistons on .020 OB. I could go .040 but the bores are pretty close and I don't want to risk blowing HGs.

Lightweight flywheel.

3 angle valve job, record holder had a 5 angle done but I'm not sure there will be much difference.

MKIII Supra Greentop injectors.

All this will be controlled by either a MegaSquirt or SMT.

I am opened to all suggestions besides going with boost :) I know this is basically a waste of money considering the lack of power it will produce per $ I put in it. It's just to break a record and then I will most likely be moving along to a 1MZ SC and hope to hit around 600rwhp with that.

NOBODY has any opinions or anything to add to this?

I thought about it but was going to keep my opinions to myself. Changed my mind, so...

The mods should all help somewhat although it seems like a huge amount of time and expense for a marginal gain. A turbo or super charger will get you more HP for the buck although it won't get you in the record books. As far as the mods you listed, IMO, the knife-edge crank will yield the least gains.

Well, I don't know about all that, but I'll buy the engine for $600 when you've proven it. Will it fit a Hachiroku?

Um, why all this for an F series engine? Seems a G series would be much more buildable. I supose if you're going for a record to pump up an F series that's one thing, but the G's take building much better with less failure after pumping large amounts of HP (and MONEY!!!) through them!

Hey Josh, wouldn't it be easier to simply go for the biggest muffler or something? A lot flashier too... ;-)

Oh, yeah, and I think in this group you will find more of us are more interested in General Maintenance, specific questions, "shade tree" repairs, politics and tearing each other down more than building things up...

Hachiroku, running Zig-Zag and ducking... ;)

There's some stiff competition though....

it before, funny :)

The cams are going to cost $600 alone!

Here is the thing, if I wanted major power I would throw in either the 3SGTE or the 1MZFE. The point of the build up is to basically shatter any record for the 5S and to have a one of a kind, fun to drive motor. Looking at prices a rear clip for a 3s jspec would cost me roughly 3k, that would put me at around 245hp which is not much more than I will be getting with my 5S after build up, im showing 220 with a semi aggressive cam setup on the dyno program right now. Now of course the 3S will take many more mods and is capable of hitting the 800rwhp mark, but if I want that sort of power I think the 1MZ SC is a better choice, I guess im not the biggest turbo fan.

My main concern so far is money per HP produced. So the P&P I will do myself, I will have to get the OS valves done which should not cost me a whole lot, the bore I may leave stock as I don't think there are that much for gains with .040 OB. I think out of pocket I will have to pay for the cams, lightweight flywheel, unorthodox pulley, head shave and balance.

I already have a spare head, cams for reground, headers, ITBs and some other misc parts. I don't expect any failure on the engine as it will all be professional tuned.

There is also another side to all this. I will be producing a new intake design for the import market (something very different) and this will be a good way to show it off.

Yup I think I will be skipping the knife edge. Only one company makes a SC for the 5S and its pretty much junk. I could fab up a turbo system that would put me at around 200hp at 9psi, it's something I am considering but at the price for the turbo I could throw in a 1MZ and have plenty of room to grow. If I can some how get the prices down as much as possible for the 5S build up I think it will be the best option as I will be come instantly net-famous, and isn't that all that matters? :)

AHA! That's what I thought! He's just showing off, folks!!! ;)

Damn, I sure would like to see this thing when you get done. That car was peppy enuff stock, I can't even imagine it! Good Luck!

net-famous may not necessarily be a good thing... think about the net-famous person who frequently posts here ;)
