Again the people are smarter than the 'global warming' kooks.....
In message news: snipped-for-privacy@comcast.dca.giganews.com, dbu,. sprach forth the following:
They'll pry my pencil from my cold, dead hands!
This would take care of "Global Warming".
Climate Change is natural as evidenced by millions of years worth of Geological data and probably can't be stopped.
Unless someone wants to strap rockets to the Earth and move it 1,000 miles or so away from the sun.
The latest is a dire warning about the melting of the polar ice shelf. This could "raise the sea levels as much as 25 meters". It goes on to describe a sea level not seen for 2.4 million years.
And no researcher seems to see the irony in that statement. It makes me wonder truly what people think is critical thinking.
it doesn't fit their agenda...
Doesn't all this warming mean that areas that were off limit because of being too cold change to a more conducive climate? It seems right now there are more inhabitable places on Earth than habitable.
As long as my winter heating bill keeps going down, I'm happy...
And places which are at sea level (think: large metropolitan areas on coastlines) will be under water... And what used to grow in "x" climate will no longer...

Close. What's interesting is how current readings are severly skewed due to where they're taken.
For example, let's say you take ambient temperatures recorded in a city such as Anaheim, California in 1940. For purposes of this example, I'll just grab a number out of the air: April 1, 1940, 68 degrees F. Fast forward to 2000. April 1, 2000,
70 degrees F. This repeats itself in every large, now-metropilitan area, all over the country or world. No one questions the existence of billions of more tons of concrete and asphalt that exist in 2000 over 1940, and how this mass holds heat better than open land. And this doesn't even bring into question the accuracy of older records and the instrumentation used to obtain them.
This is how some supposedly vital and "accurate" statistics become meaningless.

You have a good point. Imagine though if where at the moment land is covered with ice becomes habitable and they find oil underneath. That would tell us Earth has gone through many changes. If Yellow Stone Park erupts it will darken the skies and cause famine way before actual hard gore global warming.
Do we keep building more buildings, more highways, more cars, more power plants, more mines, more, more and more. What will earth look like100 years from now, 500, or 1000? Will the population be so large that earth will no longer be able to support human activity, such as enough food and water.
Will there be enough beer to go around??
That's it. I'm joining the Sierra Club.
I actually brought this up some time ago about how roads and buildings change the weather. I even suggested making certain color paint madatory for roofs and roads.
Well, it would have made sense to build prisons along the shore line wouldn't it?
I'm not sure how much "weather" would be changed, but certainly local temps are affected. A certain area might even have rain diverted by the thermals rising from a concrete jungle, much like large bodies of water affect the cloud paths.
Me too!! Global warming are us.
I live on the water.
I'll give you guys advance warning.
So far everything is AOK.....
You have gotten to the real question.....
Nah, there will be another 'correction' in the popluation long before that. Some kind of plague, war, etc.
For those that remain...
