You mean God's not a Cosmic Killjoy like the Loonies on the Left think he is, and they actually are?

That's sweet. No pun intended. :-)

One more to chalk up in (dark) chocolate's favor. :-) In moderation, of course.

(Except for dogs & cats - the darker the chocolate, the more toxic/theobromine.)

What about regular chocolate without the cocoa butter? I've been drinking Hershey's chololate syrup almost every day, since childhood, often straight from the bottle, and it's fat-free.

The study above said that it found that people who had unsweetened chocolate benefited more than those who had sweetened choc., but that both benefited vs. the placebo group, which didn't. Cocoa itself - or a chemical in it maybe? - being the key ingredient, from what I could gather - based on my very quick look-see.

I just Googled Hershey's chocolate syrup - as long as it has cocoa in it, I would assume there's some benefit.

How much chocolate does it take to cause real problems for a 75 lb dog? Are we talking sick, or dead?

It can kill them but the dose necessary for that is sizeable. One or two Hershey's Kisses won't kill them.

Our dog at about 3 ounces of milk chocolate - and the tinfoil. He puked a bit and was subdued for a day or so (the tinfoil came out the other end, later). The vet said for a 22 lb dog, 14 oz of milk chocolate would be pretty serious.

A friend's 75lb dog ate a 1 lb bar of dark chocolate (might have been baker's chocolate, I'm not too sure) and he was sick for a week They were concerned that he would die.

When it comes to chocolate, moderation is NOT an option, for me. That's why we don't have the stuff around the house.

dbu.,

Some people can eat a bowl of chili and a dozen hot wings before bed, and some can't. Maybe dogs share these two possible characteristics, too. :-)

I don't know the exact amounts re: per pound of dog's weight. But... if small - moderate amount of regular milk chocolate & a large dog, sick. If bitter chocolate, depending on amount & size of dog, perhaps dead. One dog of my sister's - a Rottweiler, so he was a large dog - managed to eat a chocolate bar one night years ago, w/out their knowledge - but he (luckily) threw it back up on the LR rug. (If they'd -known- he'd eaten it, would've been on the way to the vet for an emergency appt.)
