Halfords: how crap is that?

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "Nick Dobb" saying something like:

Only *half* the time?

Yes but they can sell you a nice gearknob with flashy lights in it, How cool is that? Who needs brakes that work when you can have blue led washer jets.

I was pretty staggered that they don't even stock 27inch bike tyres in our local branch.

Better off going a local bike shop, much cheaper, at least in Worcester it is.

You can't even buy a 4 litre can of gear oil in Halfords - they have a small selection of half or 1 litre bottles at stupid prices & only one or two bottles of each type.

That's probably reasonable - nobody's made bikes with 27 inch wheels for years now.

Aye, but in this case it's a bit like protesting because your local tyre fitter hasn't got metric tyres, or x-plies for some classic. They do do bike tyres.

Really? I don't think mine are _that_ old. They even have cable operated brakes.

Greater than 20 years isn't _that_ old, but plenty old enough for the bike industry. All the bikes of that style which get lots of use have been using

However you can still get them - eg continental and schwalbe both make decent quality tyres in that size. I'd recommend a schwalbe marathon for general utility riding.

That makes sense. I just hadn't realised how long ago they moved to 700c.

Thanks I'll keep them in mind. I bought some cheap tyres off eBay in the end, but they have yet to arrive. Make is DSI, whatever that is.

Local one has a separate Gunson's display. Meters, exhaust gas analysers, code readers, timing lights, etc.

I went there looking for normal bits and I can say that their tool range display has been severely reduced too
