Programming a Toyota Standard key remote - ?

What is the procedure (if any) for changing the battery in a Sienna remote when NO optional engine disable or security system is present? Can the battery be removed for an extended period of time without all that programming described here a couple of weeks ago? jl

From the keyfob, yes, from the vehicle, no (I think)

So I understand that the key battery can be removed and replaced any time without having to reset anything?

Re car battery - will the car typically hold the memory ok if one took say 5-10 min to install a new battery?

The manual says nothing except to 'normalize' the power window by rolling a window down half way and then close it and hold the button for a second. jl

Yes.

For the remote unlocking system, 5-10 minutes should be quick enough to change the car battery, however, the radio, clock, and powertrain ECM will lose memory. If you are going for an emissions test soon, the ECM will have to be put into the ready state by driving 2 trip cycles.

What does that (no ECM) do to driving ability????

If you are going for an emissions test soon, the ECM will have

How do you define two trip cycles? Start the wreck twice???

Nothing.

There is a specific definition of a "trip cycle," depending on the vehicle, engine, and transmission combination that involves a cold start, driving at specific speeds for specific distances, then shutting down for a certain amount of time and starting over.
