If that is your criteria then it is quite apparent you have no idea regarding the nature of addictions. Addicts and alcoholics have the lost the ability to choose. They are completely powerless over the mental obsession and physical compulsion they have.
Do you really think those who have lost their families, jobs, friends, self-respect, and eventually lives are doing it because they choose to? If they could choose to continue with their self-destructive behavior they would have chosen long ago to stop it.
Your disdain is evident. Unfortunately in this case it is borne of ignorance. That is too bad because someone you love will end up with that serious illness and you will not know how to help them recover.
Right until you go back in time to that first needle. THAT was their choice.
