Sienna liftgate strut warranty extension

Mar 17, 2009 3 Replies

I've seen references to an extension of the 3 year warranty to a 6 year warranty on the liftgates of Siennas. The liftgate struts on my

2005 Sienna cannot hold up the liftgate any longer. I called Toyota and the guy says the warranty has been replaced by a recall but that the recall is only for power lift gates.

Is it possible to get them replaced under the special 6 year warranty? Has anyone had success getting a free replacement of the struts on a manual liftgate?

Try other Toyota dealers because my father found that in the case of Chrysler dealers, the one that sold him the car didn't want to help with an out of warranty problem that was the subject of a service bulletin, but a couple of other dealers were glad to fix his car for free.

I'm going to call Toyota back and ask about it again. It sounds like "the guy" I spoke with at Toyota didn't understand what was going on. I'll also try my local dealers to see if they are familiar with the extended 6 year warranty on the liftgates. It seems they only want to look it up based on the VIN and recall list.

I called Toyota again and talked with someone else who knew exactly what I was talking about. They said that all Siennas made between

2004-2006 are covered under a 6 year warranty. The dealership is going to call in 3 days to schedule the repair.

Thanks for your responses.
