2 BILLION DOLLARS A YEAR IN AID TO THE COUNTRY, dip. Oh, and the right stems from the separation of powers provided in the Constitution. Or didn't you read it first?

Wonder why you didn't ask about Bush invading iraq when he did.

We're the leader of the world and have to maintain its order. I'm not saying we've done it well, but that's the reality of the situation, and it's in our interest that the Arab nations not gang up and start a war against Israel. By having the largest Arab nation, Egypt, at peace with Israel, such a big conventional war is impossible and reduces Palestinian efforts at unconventional warfare. Also it's important we state our policies clearly so that countries comply with our wishes correctly -- look at what happened in 1990 when an idiot US diplomat told Saddam Hussein that the US didn't care about Iraqi- Kuwaiti relationships.

Cold War and imperial hubris, both Wilsonian, to make the world safe for democracy, and plain old hunger for power and money/oil. Also if we stay out of other peoples' business, somebody else won't.

We started giving Egypt money to win the Cold War against the Soviet Union, which used to give aid (they built the Aswan Dam) and arm its military. But after the 1973 Yom Kippur war, the US brokered a peace between Egypt and Israel, enticing Egypt with lots of aid and weapons..

Yup, Egypt was a stabilizer in the middle east. We will see how it all turns out. Democracy? Only rich or potentially rich countries can afford a democracy. I don't see it lasting very long if it happens in Egypt.

Who said he tried?

Frankly, I agree with someone else who called Obama an empty suit. He's not a leader, he hates the United States and wants to end it, and he's a one term token black President. Better luck next time.

It proves that racism is alive and well in the United States, because a majority elected him without even bothering to find out that he was a hard core socialist who was mentored by a communist.

Good point. Help balance the budget - end all foreign aid.

I agree. Do it today. Start with Israel.
