All my cars won't let you switch to the lock position until the gear shift is in park. At least for my cars, it is impossible to do the "usual all-the-way-off key movement." But, all my cars have automatic transmissions. I am not sure how they handle manuals these days. Next chance I get, I'll try my son's car.
