I just found out that the cabin air filter element costs over $20 at the dealer, twice as expensive as the engine air filter! Are there any cheap third party equivalents?

The cabin filter in your Camry is one inch longer but the same width and is a fibrous material instead of paper. Look in a Purolator filter book and you will find a part number for your cabin filter. Comparably priced? I don't know. You can blow out your fibrous cabin filter a time or two. My paper filter is not really cleanable.
