94 Camry Radiator Fan Noise

Jun 27, 2004 2 Replies

I have a 94 Camry V6 with 205K miles. Everything runs fine except when the radiator fan kicks on - either due to hot weather and traffic or turning the A/C on. The fan has a very loud whine (loud enough that other drivers look)which gets louder during acceleration. It also seems to drain some of the engine power during acceleration (moreso than normal A/C).

I thought it might be the the windings of the fan motor wearing out, but after inspection I found that the motor is hydraulic. I checked the power steering fluid level and condition - that seems fine. Any thoughts? Your ideas are appreciated!

Is the radiator fan hydraulic ? If so it maybe air in the hydraulic stream to the rotor inside the motor,..or it may have sealed bearings which are squealing.

I woud call the fan itself a "failure part". The center of the plastic hub is cracked radially in several places on mine.
