My 2002 Maxima blower fan blade is rubbing against the plenum housing, worse/loud scraping noise when it is at low speed. Anyone has an R&R procedure for getting to it? It is so loud now as the weather just got colder and I cannot leave it on even at the highest speed setting. If I don't fix this soon, the motor might just burn out drawing excessive current load. Thanks.

How do you know that the fan blade is rubbing against the housing? My
2000 GLE blower squeaks at the lowest setting and is driving me crazy. I have to crank up the stereo to drown out the noise. From the sound of it I would guess that a bad bearing is the cause. It would be nice if all that is required to fix it would be and adjustment of the housing. I too would like to know the R & R procedure.cmdrdata wrote:
This past saturday I fixed mine as follows:
- Remove glove box (4 screws on top and two in bottom corners, and disconnect lamp wiring.
- Remove plastic cap covering the blower motor
- Remove motor wiring (press ide tab and pull out)
- Remove 3 screws holding blower assembly to plenum and disconnect small air tube.
- On the bench apply 12vdc to the motor terminals (I use a car battery charger to test/power it up). Mine madea loud noise at that point, and the squirrel fan is really grimy, black soot).
- Remove the fan (size 8 nut and press fit)
- Cleanup all residue, and oil the bearings using fine needle syringe filled with synthetic engine oil). Do this while the power is applied so the oil will work itself into the shaft bearings. The bottom bearing is visible throu the air tube vent.
- Put everything back and test again. The noise should be gone.
- I don't know how long this will last, so far the noise is gone. the car has been in use daily since saturday, and all is well. I would think that I will need to replace this motor in the future.
