More to the point is your belief that no sealing washer was ever present. There are some vehicles that use an -o-ring set into a groove on the underside of the drain plug flange while most common is a deformable (soft) washer to seal the irregularities between the pan surface and the drain plug flange. Drain plugs do not make use of a tapered thread so a sealing device is required.

(puzzled). What error admission are alluding to and a by/from whom?
The guy said his sump-plug fell out. The last people to touch it (presumabley) were the servicing crowd,.....can't they admit error?

Jason, if you scroll up a bit you'll see there is a sub thread discussion about sealing devices on drain plugs .... which all I was responding to. That the original poster lost his plug is another discussion. ;-)
