I have ABS or what ever the anti skid brakes are called on my 98 toyota and I was driving on an ice spot area and playing with the brakes and feeling the brakes pulse and not skid. Is this OK to do? Does it hurt the system or wear it out? Is it good for the brake system to exercise it a little like this? Does it even matter? I didn't even know my car had ABS until the other day when I was looking under the hood and noticed my car had ABS so I thought I'd better see if it worked properly.

Yes.
It wears the system out more than braking without an intervening ABS
No.
No.
You can only verify it works properly by using specialised equipment.

It sounds like it is working properly.
