Camry97 cam shaft position sensor

Hi, It's a while the engine check goes on and off. The error code corresponds to cam shaft position sensor malfunctioning. The dealer says he has never changed this sensor. Has anybody had the same problem? Any clues why it is intemittent?

Thanks

Has the timing belt been changed recently? If not is the timing belt really really old?

Remove the Cam Pos Sensor from Cyl Head, see if any sludge build up in front of the sensor. If it does, possible too much sludge build up on the cylinder head and the sensor unable to read the cam position.
