extended warranty?

Hi,

I have a toyota camry that is entering close to ending its warranty period, 36k miles.

I have heard about extended warranties. Do they work? Do many people get them? and how much do they cost on average.

Thanks.

You mean NOT Much? The warranty is 3 year or 36000 miles in the US --- save for rust thru and some emissions. Basic Coverage: Components other than normal wear and maintenance items are covered for 3 years/36,000 miles from the date of first use.

Extended warranties? Kind of like trying to win money by gambling at Vegas? The winners didn't build all those casinos. You may or may not come out ahead by spending money on an extended warranty but the odds are you won't. I think it best to save your money on the extended warranty and spend it on regular maintenance and most of all to drive reasonable. Along the same lines I'd rather have a 15 dollar air pump in the trunk, working flashlight, a small tool kit and a set of jumper cables then an AAA membership.

I certainly agree with you on the extended warranty, however they would have to pry my CAA (AAA in Canada) membership from my cold dead hands, I like it so much. Towing/emergency road service is but one of the services offered by the CAA in Canada. All the maps I want are included for free, plus tour books, accommodation guides whatever. Big buck if I had to pay for them. ALso, the membership goes with ME, not the car, so if I am in someone ELSE's vehicle and there are troubles, VOILA, a call on the cell and free road service. Yeah, my OWN vehicle is well maintained but not other peoples, as a rule.
