funny noise at run after break

Hi,

I got a 96 toyota camry v6. Recently, I noticed that if I stop(e.g at stop sign) by applying breaks and coming to a complete stop, then I run again by stepping on the gas pedal, I heard a funny noise, like grinding, or like the sound of dragging a big tree branch on the ground, the sound only last few seconds, then it's gone. Any ideas of what's the problem? Thanks

First of all, the word is "brakes"....though they do "break" your speed. I would look into possibly dragging brakes. See a brake specialist mechanic. If they drag, you'll need a brake job sooner.

The noise doesn't happen when I step on the brake, but when I step on the gas pedal after the car fully stopped(e.g at a red light)

Right, but if the brakes don't fully disengage after a stop, then they "drag" (in other words, they don't retract fully and stay semi-engaged while accelerating.)

it got auto trans. Now no more noise any more.
