How to change brake pads on 1998 Camry

Remove front wheel, remove two 17mm bolts that secure caliper, use coat-hanger to suspend caliper, remove old brake pads (brake pads will be "connected" together by a v-shaped springy clip - make mental record of how it's positioned), compress caliper with C-clamp, use rubber-band to compress springy clips, attach spring clips to inside brake pad, grease brake pad edges, replace thin sheet metal spacers, and carefully position inner brake pad with V clip (this can be a pain is the ass...patient or not). Use one of the old brake pads to temporaily fill the space between the new brake pad and the caliper, temporarily tie (with string) the new brake pad and old brake pad in place (you don't want it to move). Drop in the outer new pad (with sheet metal spacer) and work the V clip into the two holes in the pad (again, can be a pain ... 5 mins to 30 mins). Cut the rubber bands and remove, cut the string and remove, replace and bolt down the caliper.

Perhaps theres a special tool for dealing with this V Clip ... but I connected with a little ingenuity..

You'll save yourself a WHOLE lot of time by leaving the pad anchor connected to the steering knuckle and instead removing the two 14mm caliper slide pin bolts to remove the caliper only. No messing with string or rubber bands, the pads just pop out and in against the rotor.
