my engine Fan problem

There is a temperature sensor that must be stuck closed. Find it and disconnect it and it should stop running. Replace the sensor if thats the case. Don't you have 2 fans --- one is for the AC and believe it run all the time if AC is switched on. You didn't say year/engine. Better it works way it does than defaulting to off!

I think these fans have a failure-sensor as well. Usually they have an imbedded bead of magnet in the fan-blade-hub which passes by a pick-up coil in the fan housing supplying a signal if its supposed to be on. Reason I think this is so, there are a couple of extra light-gauge wires going to my '96 car's fans.

Expensive electronic equipment ( eg transmiter power-amps) use this method of fan-failure sensing. In this event, the power is switched off to the unit.

The previous owner had a system installed, and when he sold the car to me he took it all out, leaving the wires in the car...i guess he FORGOT to turn the sensor on...
