Overheating

May 04, 2005 2 Replies

I have a 92 Camry Sport with 123k km on it. Yesterday it was quite hot in the car, but not outside. The ambient air temp was about 17 C. I put on the air conditioner, and at the first set of traffic lights, the temp shot up. This has happened before, but the dealer assures me that my cooling system is fine.

I realize that it is foolish to put on the a/c if you driving slowly up a hill in the heat of Summer.... but Spring??? Should I never use the a/c, or is there something wrong with it?

thanks

John

First thing I would think of is low coolant level or the fans not coming on at the predetermined temperature. Never mind the dealer. Take it to a good independent shop if you don't feel qualified to work on it yourself.

Both fans come on when AC is turned on. Temp should always remain nearly the same after 5 minutes of driving in mild weather, 7 minutes or so in winter, or perhaps you have a bad thermostat.
