Regarding the replacement for the above factory unit, don't need cassette and don't need anything fancy either, just a good basic and reliable cd/mp3 receiver with a clean amp section to drive my existing JBL speakers. I've been looking at the Alpine CDA-9847 and Pioneer DEH-P6700MP. Are those any good and reliable? Any others I should consider? Thanks

Generally, you can't go far wrong with Alpine or Pioneer. i tend to prefer Pioneer, but go to crutchfield.com and do some comparisons. You put in your car model and such and it tells you what fits. Then you can select and compare. Then you buy wherever you want.
gotta go with the Alpine. Their units aren't as pretty or friendly as others, but their hardware is badass. I have a couple still in my closet that I replaced for no good reason with updated units. Those things outlast my cars.
