Tom, I agree with Johnin except I use a 2 stage process every 6 months just before summer and winter. I have a 23 year old toyota that looks like it could have recently come off the showroom floor. I don't like using hard to use or expensive products. 1# I wash and shamee car ( normally a day or two before I polish it, as I find if I wash it the same day there is water left in the gaps / under trims etc that make the polish harder to apply.) 2# I polish car with mequiar's Wet-Look Polymer Sealant ( suitable for all paint finishes including clear coats ). I wipe it on with a soft clean cloth, takes about 20 minutes, then rub/polish it off with a fresh clean toweling cloth, takes about 15 minutes. I normally cash the car by hand every one to two weeks with mequirar's Soft wash Gel and shamee it dry. I live in an area where there is frosts in the winter ( no snow ) and up to 100 F in the summer.
