scion question

hi,

i just a tourist here but hope you will help me out. the speedo needle on my 06 scion xa is ~15 mph off. it comes to rest below 0 when the car is stopped. i have tried to glue a piece of plastic right at 0, but then the needle does not move at all. i have tried to manually re-position the needle which works until the car is turned off...

any hints of suggestions?

That large an error is a safety concern and should be addressed by a dealer, even after 3 years. Contact Toyota directly if the local dealer won't help.

Thats what happens when people mess with rollbacking the odo

;perhaps altho the electro-mechanically speedo is seperate from the electronic odo. at 37,000 documented miles what would be the point.

i, on the other hand, was installing a remote v1 monitor in the cluster. when i installed the v1, i must have pushed the needle.

to correct the trouble, i simply pulled the needle off and re- positioned it. previously i had just "dialed" the needle to zero only to have the needle settle below zero when the car was turned off.

thanks for the constructive comments, peter

Check the accuracy with a GPS I love the GPS mph function, I can bump the cruise control right up to the speed limit and not worry about getting stopped. With my car new tires made a couple of mph difference.

did that with my garmin 276c. i found it odd that it seem "right" when the speedo read 30 and i was going more like 45 and keeping up with traffic

thanks, peter

Sure.. Get it fixed properly. If you live in or near a larger city, you should be able to find a speedometer shop or autoelectrics shop which can really fix this thing, not just diddle with it.

Sure. Calibrate the speedometer at 60 MPH using the mile posts on the highway or a GPS, find out how fast it is really going when the speedometer says 60, and allow for the discrepancy from now on.

You could calibrate it at 30 also, but that might give you too much information to make calculations in your head later on.

Or you could use the speed at which you usually drive.
