Smell in car

Hi,

I bought a used car a camry from 96. the car has a sweet kind like those Pine Odors you buy for your car. The card did have that when I bought and I hate the smeel of that and I though they smoke in the car.

anywyas, I threw the odor crap to the carbage, 3 days later I still can smell an odor. I turn on the heat try to smell if is coming from the vents but nothing. I was thinking that it can be from the exhaust so I go in the back of the car smell the exhaust pipe but is a diferent smell.

the smell stays all the time even when the car is off. I could leave the windows open all night long. in the morning gets better but later the odor starts again.

the odor is impregnated in the seats so I wonder if it just need to be shamppoed or if I have a bigger problem.

any ideas? I looked for dead rats...etc.

Eat beans before you drive. You won't notice the car's odor.

Well, others were trying to funny at times. We all do.

Anyway, I suspect your valve cover gasket, PCV hose, valve and grommet, and cam/crank/oil pump seals probably need replacing. I found out about the seals after replacing them with FelPro and then noticing the emissions smell disappeared. The smell from the engine is more acrid than that from the pipe. I think this is what you are getting.

Rubber material starts to deteriorate after about 50K miles under high heat. Silicone rubber does better, but for the price and if you are a home mechanic, just change them out at 5yr/60K miles. I'd use Gates belts and hoses and FelPro seals.
