steering column question

Feb 13, 2006 4 Replies

My steering column is making a little noise when I turn the steering column of my 1999 camry. It only happens when I am stopped. I told my mechanic that can we oil and lube the steering column. He said we canot do that with a toyota camry 1999 its sealed. Is he right?

thank you Roger vaede

Your mechanic is incorrect. There is a ujoint in the steering column just under the driver side dash, and a rubber bushing on the driver side floor. The rubber bushing is ususally the culprit (this is a common thing with camrys). Grab a can of spray silicone and spray between the bushing and the column as you turn the wheel. Should take care of it.

That worked in my 99 Camry!
