When press brakes, car dies !

Oct 19, 2003 1 Replies

My friend's car was running fine last night, in the morning, it would not start, so gave it a jump start, ( through cables from another camry) it started and when he presses the brakes it dies !

What is going on, some sort of electrical problem or what ???

thanks for help

The power-brakes booster is most likely shagged. Power brakes rely on engine inlet vacuum to work against their diaphragm which in turn adds pressure to the brake master cylinder when operated by your foot. If the diaphragm is ruptured, the booster will look like a massive airleak to the inlet manifold when you press the brake pedal, hence the engine stalls.
