Why Camry over the Accord?

Dear Toyota group members:

I am having a hard time trying to decide whether or not to buy a Camry SE V6 or Accord EX-V6

Just want to know if you guys can offer any expert opinions on why would you choose a Camry over the Accord?

Because the Accord has been butt-ugly since around 1994.

I just have had bad experiences with Honda, not the reliability, but design issues. When I wrote to Honda, they acknowledged the design problem (this was with a C-RV), but said that they had no plans to correct it. Actually they did correct the problem (with the cruise control) on the next year of the same model, but they would not retrofit the fix onto the previous year, even though it was a relatively easy fix.

I think the current Accord is much better looking than the current Camry.

Yeah, I used to be a Honda lover until I had two bad experiences with them. I bought a brand new 1998 Honda Civic, and the water pipe broke after 2 weeks of driving. It was obviously a warranty fix but the impression was not good.

Then I bought a 1999 Honda Odysey and the engine never sounded nor worked right. Later it turned out there was a massive recall to some engine parts. Thought the problem is fixed until the gears doesn't shift right, and then no surprise there that there was a transmission recall.

Not exactly impress with Honda despite all the advertising about them being the most reliable automobile. I guess I'm just extremely lucky.

I had both and accord and camry-both are great cars-camry looks like a old person car-accord has some spazzaz- both drive nice-my camry came with anti-lock braking system, or ABS and has better air conditioner-which is important down in hot Texas-accord bothered my back a little-I am 6 ft tall and had to sqiunch in.. had a 1998 accord and 1998 camry

You describe the Camry as "a old person car" as if THAT were something BAD. Old people usually have far better judgment and far more wisdom than most "young" people so, if us oldsters happen to prefer Camry to Accord, that is because WE KNOW BETTER.

1) Camry built in Melbourne = parts and service cheap, 2)Accord built in Japan = mega expensive parts and service!! (But only if you live in OZ!.)

The current Accord design looks almost European, with nicer lines that the current Camry. That said, we bought another Camry despite the looks. It's fine, but I don't like how high the window sill is on the current generation. In good weather it's uncomfortable to rest your arm on the window, even with the seat in the highest position.

The other advantage of the Camry, at least in California, is that it's much less expensive than a similarly equipped Accord because the regional Toyota distributors heavily discount Toyotas. You pay well under invoice for a Toyota, while with the Honda you're just about at the invoice price because they have less kickbacks to the dealer.

Why would you WANT to rest your arm on the window sill...the AC works far better with the window UP.

I own 3 Camry's 4cyl LE's, 2 97's and 1 98 that I just purchased. I also own a 90 4x4 PU that I have owned since new.

I prefer Camry's over Accords personally because the Camry engine design is a "non-interfence" design meaning when the timing belt breaks, the engine is not destroyed as in the "inference" design. This car also has an excellant representation, check the forums on Edmunds, etc.

I prefer the 97 LE 4cyl as it is the first year of the 97-2002 design. The car is dead reliable, seats 5, normally comes with ABS, air-bags, cruise, auto, etc.

I think the car will go 200-300K miles with mininimum maintenance.

I purchased one with 64K, one with 110K, and just purchased a beautiful

98 with 138K. You can fine these cars for $3500-$4500 for one in good shape.

I have three teenage drivers in the house and consider these to be semi- disposable.
