1986 4runner Radio & Heater question

Hi-

I just bought a 1985 4runner with 5-speed and 22r-e 4cyl. It has 115K original miles and seems to be in great shape.

I have two questions:

  1. Does anybody have suggestions for replacing the dash mounted 4" inch speakers? The factory dash speakers are a bit thin sounding and the only ones I saw that fit on 'crutchfield' were 0.00 JBL's!

-Also, any thoughts on the optimal placement location for rear speakers? This truck has no rear speakers so anything will be an improvement but I'm not interested in creating a 'show truck' with 27 subs in the cargo area!

  1. The heater fan only runs in the highest two settings. Do you think I'll have to replace the entire fan assembly in order to have it work on the lowest two settings? I'm content to live with it but wondered if there was a quick fix.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

P.S. I have a 1995 Toyota Shortbed Regular Cab 4x4 with matching cap for sale in the San Jose area. It has a 5-speed and the 22r-e motor. If your interested send me a note and I'll send along details and pictures.

I got Pioneer 2 way 4T speakers from Crutchfield and they fit fine. I have Xtra Cab andf mounted 6x9 under the parcel shelf in the rear in plastic wedge boxes.

My 88 4R has plastic molded pockets in the side wall on either side of the rear bench seat where I had the installer mount Boston Acoustics

6x9's. Of course he had to first remove these plastics pockets beforehand. Since it's pretty much hollow in there he stuffed the area surrounding the speakers with pillow filler which helped with the bass definition.
