85 pickup lurches under load or at high speed?

I have an 85 toyota pickup 5spd manual trans with a 22r engine. Its carburated and has no power steering or a/c. I was getting on the freeway in 5th gear and the truck began to lurch pretty severly. It felt like the engine was misfring but im not sure. The problem has gotten progressively worse and now it seems to happen in third, fourth and fifth gears and at relatively low speeds 30-35 mph. Its hard to diagnose because it seems to happen randomly. It never happens when the engine is cold but i think it may have something to do with the choke because i didnt let the car warm up before i drove it. It could also be another carburator related thing. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

thanks anders

fuel filter would be my first suspect.
