98 Tacoma starting question

Hey All, and thanks for reading this post.

Put a brand new battery in my 98 V-6 Tacoma with 140k today. Went to store, came out and truck would not turn over(never happened before). Lights were strong, all electronics cool, so battery was not the issue. I'm thinking perhaps that switch when you depress the clutch? But then I tried it with the "START WITHOUT CLUTCH" button, still nothing. Finally after 10-15 key turns, it fires up and I drive home. Tried it several times at home and it's fine........now I'm thinking a new starter? Ideas anyone? Is a starter hard to swap in this vehicle? Thanks again, Mike

A common problem with Toyota starters is the contacts getting burnt/pitted. Do a google for this, there is a ton of info on how-to and part numbers. HTH, Dave

Try the starter relay... If you had normal indications when you turn the key then this could be a good place to start. Also when it did turn over if the starter sounded normal, again not likely the problem.

Good luck
