Does anybody know the differences between using a steel and a graphite head gasket on a 22RE? jm

I have use several different brands, most have a graphite surface and a steel core. I liked the ones with the tacky surface on the lower side. They don't move around on you. The fanciest ones are solid copper. The copper ones are garanteed not to blow, and are used on racing engines.
