My heater doesn't get hot. It gets moderately warm and then goes back to cool then back to warm etc... My truck is an '85 SR5 Extra Cab with a 22RE engine. I installed a new Nipon 88/192 degree thermostat but it didn't make any difference. Tonight I got under the hood and felt the heater hoses and the intake hose was quite warm (But not hot) and the exit hose was mildly warm. It got down to about 11 degrees last night and I need my heater. Anybody got any ideas what is going on here? Where I should look to solve this problem? TIA Jerry

start by flushing yoru system out with a garden hose, theres probably crap inside thats blockign passage of hot water, remember to flush both ways.
Yes, try backflushing the heater core as mentioned above. Also make sure the heater control valve is opening fully with the control lever and that it is not gunked up. I had that happen on my old Landcruiser, the valve had a tiny hole open inside but 95% of the tube was clogged with buildup. Also, make sure there are no air bubbles in the cooling system, signs of this could be a gurgling sound when you rev the engine with the heater going.

get lots of heat, almost to the point it'll burn your feet with the hot air.
