on a 2002 tacoma 4x4 5 spd 2.7 all tune up is 20 mpg all i can et on the open road? any ideas

I have a 04 2x4 and get around 26 MPG on Gas or petrol. Joe

The key is 4x4 --- your'e carrying 400-500 more # plus sitting higher with probably knobbier more agressive tread tires. Try increasing tire pressure by 4 # over what's recommended (for comfort). Remove extra weight ya don't need. Shift at lower RPMs. That's about all ya can do. Adding a tonneau cover to back might help. Toyotas are heavy and built to last a long time -- not for good gas mileage -- a trade off I guess.
