Locking compartments

Does anyone sell locking covers for the storage compartments under the rear seats on a '99 extended bed tacoma? How about a locking glove box for the same vehicle?

Thanks...

The locking glovebox door will be at the stealership if there is one.

Why? So thieves can wreck MORE of your dashboard when they break into the vehicle?

He's got a point... ;-)

The only people that a locking glovebox door or storage compartment hatch is going to slow down is a sticky-fingered Valet Parking Attendant or a Teenager borrowing the car, someone who doesn't want to leave hard evidence behind that they were snooping in your Stuff.

Any crook is going in there with a prybar or an 18" screwdriver, and those flimsy locks will barely slow them down. They aren't afraid to break things, but they are in a hurry. If you can slow them down for a minute or more they know they can be seen and caught, and that's bad for their continuing freedom...

For storing anything really valuable like a weapon, large sums of money, dangerous items like radiological medicines or X-Ray sources, etc. you need a small steel safe, secured by bolting through the vehicle floor to large spreader bars. For larger items like power tools get a "Job Box" steel bin for the bed with a good armored lock system, and again bolt it down. Time is critical, slow them down.

The next challenge is when they think there's something worth taking the risk of getting caught, like multiple firearms - you have to keep them from taking the entire car, so they can drive to a secluded area or garage/warehouse and work on the safe at their leisure. The really persistent ones have a friend with a tow truck, so even immobilizing the car isn't perfect.

When you get to that level, you either don't let /anyone/ know there are valuables of that level in the vehicle in the first place (so they have no reason to break in looking for them, of course) or you don't leave them in there unattended, period. Even in a safe.

Took you a month to think that up, eh? Brushing your teeth must require a decree from the Vatican.

No... I just have a life outside of trying to ridicule others in newsgroups. Clearly, you don't. :-) Again... blow me.

Oh... and at least I brush me teeth... That one took me about 0.1 seconds to think up.
