I am looking at a 2001 4WD 4Runner. What if any, unusual things should I check for? I am very familiar with cars, but not up on any chronic problems with these. Thanks, Bob

Great trucks, but that vintage does have one thing you should look for - leaking rear axle seals. It's fairly common on the late 90's and early 00 models. The best way to check is to remove the rear drums, make sure that the shoes and backing plate are bone-dry. Replacement can be VERY expensive, involving new shoes, drums, and bearings.
