Dealer stated that the SnugFit Super Sport shell made for 2004 and earlier models would fit my 2005 Tundra. However, it is rubbing the paint off of the truck under the shell's corners. Anybody else having similar problems with the Super Sport? The Dealer states that the bed on the Tundra is the same size for 2005 and earlier years. The factory rep. looked at it and agreed that it should fit. I have the Access Cab version. Am I getting a snow job?

Dealer/installer didn't use thick enough or long enough DF foam compression tape. Have them re-do AND touch up the paint first!

What you got was a knuckledragger installation. Loosen the clamps, budge it back a tad so it doesn't touch the paintjob and retighten the clamps (but not too tight).
Good maintenance to ya, VLJ

No room to budge. All four corners are touching now.

The dealer rep. supplied the seller with some new rubber spacers(?) that fit into the rubber seal. Sellor remounted the shell. I think they were the same as what I had. The shell was not lifted very high and it resettled again anyway.

Do you mean SnugTop?
I would say that you need to try talking directly to Snug Top. SNUGTOP Custom Fibreglass Manufacturing Co. Tel: 562-432-5454 · Fax: 562-435-2992
It could be that it doesn't fit and the dealer didn't bother to call Snug Top to check. In which case, the dealer bought it lock stock & barrell. But if is painted the same color as your truck, then it was ordered that way from SnugTop most likely, and there are costs involved. It may not be really "returnable".
If it doesn't fit, well, it doesn't fit. Toyota isn't going to change the bed size to fit a shell, it's going to have to be the other way around.
Either you have a warped shell, or the model truck you have is slightly different than what the shell was made for. The SnugTop shell I have fits perfectly. I have the Xtra Vision, which I think is the same shell but with a slightly different side window.
The dealer isn't going to actually "know" that the bed is the same on a different model. He will just have the brochure sizes to go by, assuming he even bothered to read it.
Anyway, if the dealer supplied and installed it, he bought the responsibility for it. So if it just isn't going to fit, he either needs to replace it with one that does or give you your money back and repair the truck's paint at his cost. Of course he will want SnugTop to participate in that responsibility.
I would say, call SnugTop and tell them the situation, but as far as the dealer goes, let *him* solve it, and insist that he does.

The ARE dealer had the same problem with my Tacoma. They went to 'double thick' rubber seal. That lifted the -whole- shell enough to clear the corners and front center (another 'touch' spot on mine).
After three years, it's just about to touch, BUT it's also time to renew the seal anyway!

Bummer, that was the fix for mine (Tundra D-Cab) but it only has corners at the rear. The front is straight. If thicker seal foam won't do it, is there enough material there to shave out the corner inners a bit?
Good fitment to ya, VLJ

Apparently the 'dealer' only applied thicker foam at the corners (per his reply to me) ... you have to lift the -whole- shell by applying either a double course or the 'special' 3/4" rubber 'foam'. Some 'dealers' claim it's not available until you really push possible action, then suddenly they 'have some left'. It's about 3x the price of the cheap stuff.

Yes, SnugTop. My mind wondered. I had the dealer rep. look at it and claimed all was right. I didn't know that they made a thicker rubber seal. I'll contact the dealer and ask about that. I ordered it from the dealer with color to match my truck.
