speaker replacement

i am interested in removing an original speaker from my 1992 4 x 2 toyota pickup truck ( the speaker is cracked ) and replacing it with another speaker.

my question is: how do i get to the speaker? it looks like the speaker grill, glove box, etc. are all one piece. i had the 1 underneath screw and 1 underneath bolt out and the 3 phillips head glove box screws out, but did not want to proceed further w/o more knowledge. do i need to take the dash apart?

i realize that you can reach underneath and get to the speaker from the rear ( back ), but i need more room and need to get the facing more forward ( toward the seat ) to do this. any suggestions?

in advance, thank you very much.

You were on the right track (might be 4 phillips screws in the glove box. The just pull it out. It takes a 4T speaker. I replaced with Sony 3 way speakers from

4" co/axial 2 way speakers. you can add some pioneer trx40's for behind the seats for even more and better sound for not a lot of $$

Bill: This might come a bit late, but I just did what you are trying to do. I have a

1994 Toyota Pickup 4x2 4 cyl extcab truck (not the Tacoma). My right hand side front speaker in the dashboard went bad and I had to replace it.

This is for the right hand side front speaker replacement.

Start by removing the 10mm bolt in the bottom right corner. Second, remove the phillips self-tapping screw near the bottom LEFT of the glove box. Now, open the glove box and remove three phillips screws in the top inside edge. (Total you will need to remove 4 phillips screws and one 10mm bolt). Now the entire glove box and the frame is held in by friction. You need to carefully pry it DOWN and out, just wiggle it back and forth while gently pulling. It will come out. Don't let it fall though, because the speaker has a short connector to it. Disconnect it and you are done!.

Good Luck,

A.T.
