I got a 2004 2wd 2.4l Manual Reg Cab a few months ago. It's a great little truck and gets 25 miles per gallon. Plus it was really cheap. I'm sure you could get bargain with the dealers pretty good as the year ends out. At the 3 lots I went to they all had lots of white minis. I got the only silver in the area.
The 2.4l has plenty of power for me. I was just out in the mountians of Maine, and I was able to climb most grades suprisingly well. I was even able to pass people going up hill at 50-70mph. From a stop the pickup is o.k., but not really smooth when you try to accelerate fast. The problem with the truck is that it has no balls when traveling at highway speeds.
I was supprised to find that my mini works really good in rain. I have to work pretty hard to spin the tires from a stop. I've gone through some pretty big puddles and pretty quick speeds, and the hydroplane wasn't bad at all.
If you get a 2005 you will be getting a bigger truck, with a 2.7l engine. I would assume it will get less mpg than the current mini.
