Use of oscilloscope

Feb 19, 2004 2 Replies

Does anyone have any information on how to use a lab-type oscilloscope (eg a Tektronix 212) on an automotive ignition system? I have references that tell me how to read the traces, but no idea where to find or how to make an appropriate inductive pickup. Likewise, how does one properly hook it up to read coil and injector signals -- as simple voltage measurements across the device connection?

Thanks

I would think a pick up of a timing light may do the job for the high voltage line out of the coil, as per injector signal they should be either

That's what I've been thinking. Thanks.

Jim
