'73 Bay wiring matter

Folks Been trying to sort out the wiring hell that was left to me by the PO of our

73 westy. It seems one battery is not enough, so he wired some stonking great huge thing in parallel with the propor one, attached all sorts to both battery terminals on both batteries, various earth wires sort of wrapped round the earth braiding.....it carries on. anyway, on sorting out such at the right rear light, i get hung up a bit on the colour ( color ?) coding. I see a grey wire with red bands, and also a grey wire with red stripe. I assume that one is hot going to the lamp for the tail light, and the other is hot off to the number plate lamp? So how does red with green bands & red with green stripe work ? I thinks its brake light, well one of them. Does the other go to the left lamp ? I cannot seem to follow it!!!

anyone?? anyone?? Beuller? Beuller ?

James

The colors (colours?) can fade over time. The right side tail light and the little side marker light and the license (number plate) light are Gry/Rd.

The brake lights (both sides) are Blk/Rd.
