New brushes had quite a champher (sp?) on two sides making the contact area quite reduced. Why would do this? Break in?

IF the brushes are in the correct orientation then it Might be an attempt to make the contact more precise. Or it might be a way to make replacement brushes adapt more smoothly to a loose fit.
