Bus stalling

I have a 65 Bus with a 1600 DP in it. I put a new Bocar carb on it last summer and drove it around 2,000 miles or so and it worked fine. I got it out of storage this spring and drove it a little with no problems. But it is starting to stall out some now. It mainly does it when I get off an expressway and pull to a stop. If I just come down ramp and push clutch in while stopping it will stall. If I downshift or can rev the engine before stopping it will not stall. I have readjusted carb, according to Kens Buggy Barn instructions, replaced fuel filter which was not dirty though, added fuel cleaner, checked for vaccum leaks,I have an 009 also on it. I have the idle set about 900 rpm I tried 1,000 rpm put no difference it sill stalls. Any suggestions of other things to check. TIA

Most likely flooding causing the stall. Very, very common in hot weather. The fuel in the bowl boils and dribbles into the manifold. Jack up the idle and wait for winter...

Hey Speedy Jim. Thanks for the response. The carb worked fine last summer plus it starts right up without a problem when it stalls. (knock on wood) If it was flooding would it be hard to restart? Thanks again

The "flooding" may be enrichment at idle just severe enough to kill the engine.

High fuel pressure (due to expansion) can also be a culprit if the pressure can force the float needle valve open.

Hey Speedy Jim again I went out and took the carb off and looked around on it and found the fuel cut off valve was loose. I tightned it and went on a quick test run and it did not stall. So it looks like a vaccum leak after all. I will drve it more tomorrow and see how it acts. I appreciate your quick responce and suggestions. Sometimes you just can't see the problem and it is right in front of your face. Thanks again

Try finding a good dashpot. VW added them to slow the engine decceration on the 1600. This was added as a pollution control, but also is the best setup for the bocar/009 combination. The Haynes manual will give you a good description of the function of the unit.
