Clutch Issue

This weekend I replaced the entire clutch system on my stock 60 type 1 (pressure plate, clutch, release bearing, cable, and gland nut). When I engage the clutch pedal and shift everything is fine, however as I let out on the pedal, just as the clutch in engaging I here what sounds like a metal on metal grind. I almost sounds like when you try to put the car in gear without the clutch, however that is not what is happening. I have rechecked the adjustment and the sag and both seem to be correct.

Anyone have any ideas? In one of the books I have it talks about clutch chatter, could this be a form of it? The only way I have to describe it is a grind. It will also do it when not in any gear just pressing the pedal and slowly releasing it, but to a much lesser extent. If I release the pedal very slowly I can hold it at the point that the noise is constant.

Is it just that I need to drive it some and allow the clutch to seat and wear in?

HELP!!

This can't be it but, did you remove the clutch packing clips? In the John Muir Idiot book it mentions that sometimes the home mechanics forget to remove the metal packing clips from the pressure plate.

It could also be the seating surface of the throw-out bearing being moved out of centrer installing the engine. Equally, one out of the three arms actuating the pressure plate could be affected.

Been there done that half a century ago.
