what's the best way to get this stuff off a part?

I think BMW used to use an ammonia based car wash to clean off the cars we got shipped here. Maybe some brakecleaner would work on a small part???

Varsol (some gas/fuel oil companies sell for parts cleaning) or mineral spirits should clean it off.
