the number on the engine of my '74 super beetle starts with AB in the books i have and sites i've gone to list a bunch, but none of them show any that start with AB
does any body know anything about it?

Cases (Never supplied in new cars -- only sold over the counter. All are dual-relief with 10mm oil passages).

According to Garwood (Car of the Century, Volume 2) The AB series engine made its initial appearance during the 1971 production year. It was a dual port
1300 cc engine which produced 52 hp SAE/44 hp DIN. This engine was in production for three years. Serial numbers ran from AB0000001 to AB0990000.Mike
