Engine Lid For A 74 Super Beetle - What Works

I've been away from VW's for about 12 years and I've forgotten a lot of stuff. I have a 74 super beetle then needs a new engine lid. From what I remember the back-end of a super beetle is the same as a beetle, right? So what years will have the correct holes for the script and the license plate light? Thanks.

Anything from 68 and up will fit: looks, louvers, hinges, lcking mechanism, license plate "nose"... not sure about script holes though. I always shave mine off.

72-74 will be exact with same number of louvers and script.....75-77 is same except i *think* they have a different script for fuel injection.....we seem to have a person here with "very limited" vw experience who's only experience is with the expert restoration of a 74 1303....maybe he can help.

It is not restored, Chris. Nor have I ever claimed that it was. It does run good, although it is not much to look at. But I can say that mine looks better than your current project.

i actually call you out so you can "help" contribute here on the group because you have experience here, and to give my leg a rest, and you can't even do that....as i said, you have an odd fascination with me....

your's "looks" better? beauty is only skin deep...and in the case of my current project that skin is rust free and has been completely stripped to metal....sitting in primer now.....and the beast under the skin is even better.....not your every day stocker i assure you.....alot can change since those old pictures....come on dude, you seek accuracy, you need to start by being accurate yourself.....

rust free, ready for body work and paint....suicide doors coming up...maybe even a bit of a chop....whatcha think, 4 or 5 inches? she is running great too......been utilizing my limited time to actually work on vw's.....not troll newsgroups for attention...

you probably should have linked to the entire page instead of trying to fit the pictures to whatever agenda you have....it is, after all, a work in progress

its fun to actually modify these cars instead of buying a few parts and bolting them on....surely you can agree?
