Failed Safety inspection... darn

Finally found a good place to take the cars to get inspected. Too good for my bug, I'm afraid. The guy was nice but called me on the turn signal switch not staying when switched, license plate light out, and no dashboard turn signal indicator. (Apparently the switch doesn't have to cancel, but it does have to stay on when turned on.) Well, now I actually have to fix it. Trying to figure out how to get this '60/61 turn signal switch to stay down (or up) when turned... (I have the smaller, two-bulbed tail lights in the bug... I guess I COULD go with a later model turn signal switch and use a solid-state trailer connector... but I already blew one of those out when I accidently shorted a tail light... it blew out before the fuse did.) At least I have it shimmed enough with Mylar that the brake lights work... most of the time...

Anyway, if anybody has a bright idea about rebuilding these switches I'd welcome the input. (I already used a few parts from a newer switch but worn parts are worn parts.)

TIA.,

...not off hand, without seeing which pieces are worn. But if ya get too frustrated you could just get a new one...

I see your point, kirk. However I will agree with the recommendation and push it a bit further. You are not goint o get rid of that car real soon, and It's the best form of daily transportation to spend the money on.If you buy it and fix it now, You will save scads of time and energy (= Money) later, by just cruising in to the Inspection station and getting out quickly and not have to spend all the time each year , jacking with the signal lever assembly. It pays if that's the issue. I have soem that don;t cancel , But am not worried about inspection, as I have mine registered as an antique car...................no inspection needed.

Oh. It isn't the "canceling" that it has to do... it has to stay "ON" when switched ON... mine slips OFF right away unless I hold it or coax it. I also have to twist it a tiny bit to get the brake lights to work consistently... THAT is something I will fix immediately... freaky to see the car behind you bearing down quickly in traffic cause he/she can't tell that you slowed down.

what is even "freakier" is that the moron behind you has to see lights to realize that your vehicle is slowing down... J

PASSED INSPECTION!!! Got the '60 turn signal indicator working reliably, got the flasher indicator in dash working (thanks to Speedy Jim), and got the turn signal indicator to stay in place when turned ON until I turn it OFF. If I had been more energetic I believe I know how to get it to cancel properly too... I just wanted to hurry up and pass inspection!!! Oh, and the license plate light even works now!

Thanks for the help and advice!!! KWW
