FI heater questions

A quick question about the stock heating system in a fuel injected 76 beetle. I noticed I wasn't getting any hot air out of my passenger side vents, and after much investigation I think that the hoses from the fan shroud and the air intake were switched, meaning I had the fan shroud hooked up to the warm air intake. So the question I am asking is: does the hose from the fan shroud (passenger side) go to the heater box hole, the foremost hole in the engine tin, and the air intake hose go behind it? I switched the two and viola I have heat coming out the passenger side. I just wanted to make sure that it was setup right, I couldn't find a good description in my bently or haynes. Now that I got heat though, I think that I will really roast this winter. I did a little heater box resto and put a mexi type hood seal on, and for the past week I thought the car was heating very nicely, with only one vent working. It will be interesting after work tonight when the temps go below freezing to see how well it's really working.

Thanks Jon

Click on Item 19-10 Part #1 is the heated air pickup and Hose #24 goes to the air cleaner.

Item # 01 (engine complete) shows the 2 fresh air hoses from the shroud to heater boxes.

Those FI heaters are almost twice as efficient as the carbed engine boxes.

................I have to open my window an inch or two to keep from getting too hot in my '77. The guys with '74 & older bugs don't know what they're missing when it comes to winter driving comfort. Even when it's down to zero here in upstate NY, I'm still comfy.

Will these FI boxes work on non-FI engines? What's the difference?

..............I don't know why you couldn't use them. You'd have to install the rest of the '75 & later exhaust system with them. The rear apron on '74 & earlier bugs doesn't leave enough room for the stock muffler though. Maybe a slimmer aftermarket one could be adapted.
